Installing & Configuring QIM

Installing QIM on the QuickBooks Server

QIM requires that QuickBooks Pro 2002 be installed on the QuickBooks server prior to installation.  Once QuickBooks has been properly installed and tested, install QIM on the QuickBooks server with the CD or installation file provided by Microworks.  The QIM installer will create a \QIM folder on your QuickBooks server and place any necessary program and data files in that folder.  At this point, use the Windows Explorer to create a subfolder for each store to act as the data transfer directory for QuickBooks. (See the below graphic.)

Configuring QIM

Once the proper directory structure has been created, launch QIM by double-clicking the QIM icon on the Windows desktop and follow these steps:

  1. Enter your company name in the company information area.

  2. Select the QuickBooks company file by browsing to the QuickBooks data location.  (This will be the same file and location that is used by your QuickBooks Company.)

  3. Select the 'Either' option for 'Open As:'

  4. Click 'Add' to enter each store's data location information.

  1. Enter a store name and browse to each store's data location.  Settings must be added for each store location that will be interfaced with QuickBooks.  Usually, one company will be created with multiple stores linked, although QIM will support the use of multiple companies - each having one or many store locations associated with it.

The decision to setup QuickBooks as a single company with multiple store locations or multiple companies each having a single location is yours to make.  If you have multiple locations setup under the same QuickBooks Company, you will need to specify a QuickBooks Class for each of your store locations.  An alternate method would be to create a sub-account for each store location within the Chart of Accounts.
